Roofing Contracting Services Business Improvements

This year is closing on all of us fast, and at RCS we have enjoyed a great year. Compared to the previous two years we have come up about 50% in sales volume. We have certainly worked hard for it.

This can be attributed to a few factors:
  • Darrin, has left the comforts of the office and got back to the roof with our clients and crews two years ago. This has helped bring the repair-work significantly, to a non-existent or very small list.
  • Our clients DO NOT have "the lowest price is the best" attitude. This allows us to "do the job right the first time" by upgrading to quality and high warrantee product lines and applications.
  • RCS has improved the personal experience for all of our projects and clients. We commit the time for each individual challenge, and your solutions.
  • On the customer service front, we've expanded our web services with a newly improved and informative website as well as joined various social media networks for people to engage about our work and our industry.
I'm proud of all our installers who go through each job under pressure to get to the next project, and still deliver on a a daily basis quality projects. This speaks greatly of their experience and workmanship.

November Update from RCS

It's been an active and productive summer over at RCS. We would like to notify you that we are completely booked for the rest of the 2011 year for replacement roofing. We want to thank our customers and clients for a great year and look forward to taking orders in the spring.

Guelph Manchester Square Project:
We are glad to announce that the roofing work on the low-rise, 55 unit condo in Guelph, Ontario is fully completed and delivered on schedule. RCS used 30 year Owens Corning shingles.

Barrie GO Station:
RCS is also working on 3 buildings for the new downtown Barrie GO station. The project will be completed through the months of January and February of 2012. We're using a premium grade ice and water shield by Grace Construction Products with an Enviroshake shingle. We would like to thank our partners, Bertram Construction Solutions as well as GO Transit for this wonderful capital project.

Word of mouth referrals are the best "thank you" we can receive. Please pass on our name to your friends and neighbors either directly or by forwarding our links (Website, Twitter, Facebook). They are located below or can be searched for on the appropriate social media network.

RCS and Westin Homes

RCS is very proud to mention our long term client Westin Homes based in Bradford, Ontario is having a record year in new home sales. To date Westin has sold approximately 140 homes, since this spring 2011 release!

Just wait until this Canadinan Thanksgiving Weekend. Sales are expected to hit another 15 to 20 units to add to 140!

RCS was contracted to do the roofs. We used Biltmore 30 year premium shingle. Double-layer construction and a tough, modified sealant provide for superior tear-strength values and greater resistance to high winds. BiltmoreTM shingles are manufactured in a larger size than most, with the added exposure enhancing the shake-like appearance.

RCS appreciates all the 14 years of a continuous great business relationship!

You can visit Westin Homes online at www.WestinHomes.ca and see their existing project in Bradford.

Asphalt Shingles vs. Laminate Shingles?

Laminate shingles also known as architectual shingles are the more desired shingle today. They are a stronger more durable shingle then the traditional Asphalt, 3-tab strip shingle.

An asphalt shingle is manufactured by attaching asphalt to paper matting and then adding granules to add colour and desired look. Fiberglass may also be added to strengthen the shingle.

Laminate asphalt shingles are manufactured by using the strength of two shingles thus allowing for a stronger more durable quality. Laminated shingles are formed by attaching two shingles together and creating a  dimensional pattern to mimic the look of wood or a slate roof. It is then coated in asphalt and may also use fiberglass for enhanced reinforcement.

It is recommended that a Laminate asphalt shingle be the choice for builders and homeowners. It is a more attractive shingle, more durable shingle and withstands the Canadian elements, providing a longer life for a minimal cost increase.

For more information on Laminate Asphalt shingles or how RCS can provide service for you please contact us today!

Are you being ripped off by a contractor?

CBC The Fifth Estate
Episode on Sat. May 28 2011
Roofer Rip-off, Buyer Beware.

Is your roofing contractor legitimate? Or are you going to be ripped off?

That’s the question which was posed on this past Saturdays CBC , The Fifth Estate. What a great show!

We hear the nightmares but are they really true? My answer is absolutely 110%. Horror stories happen every day.

Customers did not receive what they were promised, homes left in a mess, and others being completely ripped off with no where to go.

You as a consumer or a building contractor need to do the right amount of homework ALL the time.

Criteria must haves.
 1. Current WSIB , up to date account. Get a hard copy.
2. Fall Protection certified. Get a copy of the card,
3. Contractors liability Insurance, get a hard copy.
4. WHIMIS and First Aid certified.
5. Current references. Get it in writing and phone or go by and see the projects.
6. A written contract that is signed by both parties and clearly understood.
7. Supplier name and number, call to see how your contractor handles their material supplier business relationship.
8. A friend/associate, that has used their services fairly current, is a great help.

These are just a few good points that can help you make a solid decision in choosing the right roofing contractor.

Rising oil prices, how did that happen? Facts the petroleum industry doesn’t want you to know.

Is it Bin Laden, Iraq, Pakistan, Oil spills in Southern US, how about Libya?

The production costs of oil and the demand remains similar or even less than a year ago. How does the price at the pump and the price of asphalt petroleum based, such as roofing materials price continue to increase more than thirty percent in one year. The real price per barrel, the true value, should be around $65 to $70 dollars per barrel.

Where does the more than 100 %( $125 to $130/barrel) mark-up come from.

Point your finger to….The Stock/Future Markets.

Banks, Financial Houses and Major Capital firms are responsible. Massive amount of oil “future stock” are traded on a regular basis. The amount of capital injected daily on “Futures” (shares that don’t exist, but gambling on rising market prices) are purchased solely on speculation, drive prices to what we see today. The futures bought and sold are enough to greatly influence world markets.

Regulators need to step in once again or the world will have another financial meltdown. The US and other countries played the same game on real estate markets and we know how that worked out.
